Clarion development tools minimize the cost of developing and maintaining commercial quality database applications. Clarion is the only product that creates 16- and 32-bit programs for Windows 3.x, 95, 98, NT and the Internet from a single application repository.
Now developers
can create Internet/Intranet database applications as easily as they currently
create Windows programs. The Internet Edition includes the popular
HYPERLINK "cwprof.htm" Professional Edition and the HYPERLINK
"iedition.htm" \l "IDK" Clarion Internet Developer's Kit.
There
are three levels of Clarion Tools; Professional, Enterprise and Internet
Professional Edition
If your applications are shaped by their underlying data, Clarion for Windows delivers a strong foundation in literally minutes, and the advanced tools to customize applications to solve your business problems.
Your starting point is a full featured application. In literally minutes, you'll have a complex application for viewing, editing, and reporting your database. The end user can select among multiple key orders by clicking a tab. Double-clicking a record in the list opens an update form, with automatic concurrency checking, and optional Referential Integrity Constraint support. When you use the visual design tools, and drop a control in a window or report, you place a complete solution - you don't have to write code! Clarion control templates already know how to perform the tasks typically required for maintaining your database.
By centering the development process around a database dictionary that stores the database structure, business rules, and application pre-formatting, Clarion automatically creates surprisingly complex applications just by running a wizard.
Clarion
designs a useful application by using your database, as your starting point.
Incorporate
Windows 95 controls (such as tree, progress, and tabs) in your 16-bit Windows
programs. Bring 16-bit .VBX controls forward to 32-bit Windows safely and
reliably. If your users are moving to 32-bit Windows in stages, no other
tool lets you support both 16 and 32-bit users as easily as Clarion. With
one tool, and one project file, you can compile applications for any Windows
platforms.
A Business Language With built-in Database Grammar
The Clarion 4GL language is built from the ground up for business development. It's readable, easy to learn, and easy to maintain. It automatically uses integer maths on decimal types to eliminate floating point conversion errors on your currency calculations. Its built in database grammar helps you maintain databases of every type - the replaceable database drivers automatically perform the necessary optimizations. And, Clarion supports objects. You can write procedural code, or incorporate object structures (including OLE and OCX objects), and OOP code statements within procedural code, or write object oriented code.
Create Faster Programs With Smaller Footprints
The TopSpeed
compiler creates fast applications. And, because the small (typically 100KB)
database drivers contain everything you need to connect to your data, your
application footprint doesn't require huge external database engines. The
typical Clarion app requires about 1.5MB on the end user's system, including
database support and reports.
Enterprise Edition
This is
a new generation of Clarion technology with compelling benefits for every
corporate programmer as well as every independent software developer who
programs for a living.
Enterprise
Edition delivers a unique combination of automation features, sound development
methodology, blazing execution speed, extensive database awareness and
effortless connectivity, as well as easy-to-program flexibility. It automates
every phase of your work starting with design, through development and
deployment, all the way through ongoing maintenance.
Best of all, Enterprise Edition allows you to CODE! (Create Once, Deploy Everywhere). It's the only development environment that lets you create 16- and 32-bit programs for Windows 3.x, 95 and NT -- all from a single source.
Internet Connect
Internet Connect Web enables your Clarion applications in minutes. It is an economical way - both from a monetary and a network traffic viewpoint - to give your end users full featured applications over the Internet/Intranet. With Internet Connect, you retain more control over the program flow and database access than with any other Internet/Intranet solution. Your applications can be run on any platform that supports a Java enabled browser.
Internet Connect, used in conjunction with HYPERLINK "cwprof.htm" Clarion Professional Edition , consists of two products -- the Clarion Internet Developer's Kit and the Clarion Application Broker . The Internet Developer's Kit is a set of templates and Java classes which allow the developer to Web enable new and existing applications into Internet database applications (includes a limited edition of the Application Broker). The HYPERLINK "iedition.htm" \l "Broker" Application Broker is a specialized Web server designed to run your Clarion applications. It can run alone or with any other Web server
The Internet Developer's Kit is an add-on product that can be used with Clarion Professional, or Enterprise Edition to develop hybrid Web/Windows applications or to Web enable existing Clarion applications. Web enabling Clarion applications is a one-step, template driven, process. A single connect version of the Application Broker is included with the Internet Developer's Kit.
